Position Description:

• The Sous Chef is responsible for providing culinary support to the hospital food service department. • Projects an image of professionalism in communication, appearance and conduct that supports the organization’s mission. • This position promotes, generates, and implements the ongoing preparation of food for patients, personnel, medical staff, visitors, catered events, Child Care Center, and retail sites to include quality, cost effective controls and entrepreneurial skills. • This position is responsible for subordinate cooks, production personnel and other food service personnel - schedules, trains and supervises food production employees. • The position maintains and improves food quality, sanitation, safety standards. • Contributes to positive patient and customer relations by assuring that patient and customer needs are met promptly and appropriately.• Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• Minimum of 4 years supervisory experience in large feeding operations with progressively more responsible positions, required. • At least 5 years of cooking experience in a variety of operations including restaurants, institutions and large quantity food production, required. • Demonstrate effective communication skills, knowledge of sanitary and safety standards.• Ability to work well under pressure and have a strong commitment to quality and customer service.• Demonstrate knowledge of food purchasing and storage procedures for cost effective management.• Completion of a culinary certificate or a degree in Food Service Management or equivalent preferred.• ServSafe certification required.• HACCP knowledge mandatory.• Must be able to lift 50-70# and have no lifting restrictions.
