Stroke Coordinator

Borgess Medical Center offers a stroke program that has been certified as a Primary Stroke Center since 2004 by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Health Care Organizations (JCAHO). Our comprehensive teams of physicians and nurses include Neurosurgery, Neurology, Neuro Imaging and Neuro Intervention. Borgess also offers full rehabilitation services recently certified for stroke by the Commission for Accreditation for Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF). The addition of our Stroke Clinic provides intensive, ongoing follow-up for discharged stroke patients. This compliments our emphasis on community education and stroke prevention programs. This innovative continuum of care system offers world class care for the surrounding community and Borgess patients.

The Stroke Coordinator reports to the Director of Care Management and is responsible for facilitating and coordinating all service/systems required for the care of the stroke patient and provides direction and guidance in the care of the stroke and Neuroscience populations across the continuum. This position supports the goals of Borgess Medical Center in the advancement of the provision of quality stroke care. Licensed to practice as a registered nurse in the State of Michigan.

Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred, Bachelor’s Degree in health related field required.

Certification by the American Association of Neuroscience Nursing required within two years of hire.

Minimum of two (2) years clinical nursing experience in neuroscience nursing care required.

Minimum of two (2) years of providing community and professional education preferred.

Interpersonal skills necessary to interact effectively with internal and external personnel, at all levels of the organization, patients, families, and staff, in order to promote optimum functioning of the Stroke and the Neuroscience Programs at Borgess.

Analytical skills necessary to gather data, determine conformity based on predetermined criteria, identify problems, and design recommendations to advance quality stroke care and the Neurosciences at Borgess.
