Substance Abuse Specialist/Monument Village
JOB DESCRIPTION
Position: Substance Abuse Specialist
Department: Monument Village
Status: Full Time Non Exempt
Primary Function: Provider office coverage, respond to resident needs and participate in the development and delivery of group activities for program residents.
Immediate Supervisor: Senior Social Worker
Qualifications:
Education: Associates Degree in Human Services or high school diploma and five years experience in related field. CAC preferred.
Experience: Experience in human services in family and child services, residential care, and relapse prevention. Must be familiar with group process and have experience with problem-solving, substance abuse and the recovery process. Must have demonstrated the ability to work responsibly, possess good judgment skills, and work under minimal direct supervision.
Responsibilities/Tasks
1. Participate in the planning and implementing of group activities including drug and alcohol recovery support groups at least once a week.
2. Coordinates babysitting services as needed and approved by Program Administrator.
3. Conducts hourly rounds of community (minimum of seven rounds during each 8-hour shift).
4. Maintain group books which outline group purpose, group attendance and group outcome.
5. Log group attendance in each individual chart, which shall be a section of the client’s primary chart.
6. Discuss problems with clients, utilize problem solving techniques and create individual progress notes as needed.
7. Observe client activities and interactions. Teach by example what is appropriate by limiting foul language, negative attitudes, intimidation and poor parenting practices.
8. Spend time in the common areas with clients as much as possible. Spend time talking with clients, role modeling appropriate behavior. Model positive behavior.
9. Take responsibility for knowing program rules. Ensure that the structure of the program is followed.
10. Provides shift coverage when needed.
11. Maintain and carry a case load (number of clients to be determined by program needs). Will include b-weekly meetings to address service needs; develop and/or review goal plans process.
12. Provide documentation for all service contacts ensuring that they are made part of the client record in accordance with OSH and agency standards. Documentation should be presented to supervisor prior to placement into records.
13. Attend all team meetings.
14. Adheres to agency and program policies and procedures and ethical standard of behavior.
15. Perform other tasks as assigned by the Program Director.
Physical demands:
Worker must be able to travel within the residential property and use stairs within the resident’s home. Light to moderate lifting in the office site or other setting. Employee must also be able to use a computer for extended periods of time.
Working Conditions:
Worker will be expected to divide time between the in–office site, residents’ homes and community sites, as needed.
Hazards:
This employee may encounter residents who are angry, upset, who may be under the influence of drugs, alcohol or experiencing mental health problems. They will need to take proper precautions when encountering such clients.
