Telecommunications Operator - Telecommunications
Operates multiposition computerized MS Windows-based telephone console, alarm monitoring systems, radios and paging systems. Answers calls courteously and processes them expeditiously. Responds to requests for emergency assistance via telephone, radio or automatic alarm system. Initiates required response to urgent situations and alarm activations, in accordance with policy. Functions as the central communications/information point to the hospital. Registers patients for hospital admission and outpatient services. Greets, assists and directs patients, visitors, clergy, and physicians. Conforms to hospital policy and standards of service excellence.
Qualifications: High School diploma or equivalent required. Must have a strong command of the English language, speak and write it clearly. Ability to speak French desirable. Keyboard/typing, working knowledge of MS Windows software and telephone skills required. Medical terminology desirable. Must possess strong interpersonal and oral communication skills. A formal course in medical terminology, customer service, and MS Windows must be completed within 18 months after hire. Previous experience as a telephone/switchboard operator preferred. Previous experience in hospital or health care setting desirable. Prior experience in use of MS WIndows based software required. Prior customer service experience required.
