Telemetry Technician
STG International, Inc. is currently seeking several Telemetry Technicians to join our team on a Federal contract with the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, MD.
Perform tasks relating to cardiac/electrocardiogram (ECG) monitoring including the observation of cardiac monitors and the assessment of resulting data collaborating with a Registered Nurse (RN). Observe, gather, initiate, compile, and record telemetry data reporting cardiac rhythm changes and information on monitored patients. Observe central telemetry monitor, record and identify all changes in the patient’s baseline cardiac rhythm and promptly notify nurse caring for patient. Collaborate with appropriate staff members for rhythm interpretation beyond expertise. Obtain and post rhythm strips on admission in patient records, every 4 hours or per unit policy, and more frequently if ordered by appropriate upper level management staff member. Interpret rhythm strips to include rate (atrial and ventricular), rhythm, PR interval, QRS interval, QT interval, ectopoic beats and ST segment changes under government supervision. Document the interpretation on the strips and post in patient records. Label and distribute trend reports for each patient for past shift as required. Sign off on all dysrhythmia sheets. All documents must be reviewed and approved by government. File reports in accordance with established procedures. Report the status of monitored patients to the technician for the next shift. Identify life threatening dysrythmias, and take immediate action by alerting appropriate nursing staff members to check patient, if necessary call the emergency cardiac arrest response team. Document all pertinent information during a cardiac arrest and report all changes to patient’s nurse. Complete and submit required documentation to code team immediately following the cardiac arrest. Record cardiac rhythms during cardiac arrests and resuscitation, cardioversion and during the administration of intravenous push medications, such as Advanced Cardiac Life Support medications and command approved 3W intravenous push medications. Review each dysrhythmia sheet from every shift and retrieve trends, if requested by appropriate staff member. Operate/utilize monitoring system to full capacity. Admit patients to the monitoring system, setting alarms per nursing staff directions or based on protocol, adjusting gain, and setting proper lead(s). Respond appropriately to all alarms in accordance with unit policies. Identify and analyze factors related to equipment operation and patient responses to discern their interrelationships. Notify appropriate nursing staff members when changes in the monitoring parameters are required for a particular patient, and when changes in electrode placement and batteries are required. Perform complete system check at the beginning of every shift to include alarms, dysrhythmia analysis and patient identification. Assess all equipment at the beginning of the shift for malfunction and alarm setting. Immediately reports malfunctions to Charge Nurse and coordinate requests for repair by contacting current vendor; follow up on status of equipment repair and maintain awareness of equipment status at all times. Maintain adequate stock of monitor supplies: paper and batteries. Initiate orders with 3W Leading Petty Officer/Charge Nurse for necessary supplies as needed. Maintain cleanliness of transmitters and monitoring station per manufacturer and unit guidelines. Collaborate with appropriate staff members involved in the training and in the staff development pertaining to ECG monitoring. Instruct new employees on complete telemetry monitor use, and participate in verification of their orientation paperwork upon government request. Provide at a minimum, one in-service training annually dealing with cardiac monitoring. Demonstrate ability to pass a standardized department-provided dysrhythmia recognition examination. Demonstrate knowledge of basic anatomy and physiology of the heart and conduction system, to include location and function of the organs and structures.
Requirements
Have successfully completed a telemetry technician course
or
Possess two years experience monitoring EKG/Arrhythmia in a physician’s office, clinic, hospital, or similar setting with in the preceding three years.
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Current Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.
