He/she will work under the direct supervision of the Chairman, of the Department of Surgery and under the Clinical supervision of the Director of Renal and pancreas Transplant Surgery for the Saint Barnabas Health Care System. The Transplant/Vascular Surgeon will play an active role in education and training in the Department of Surgery and is a vital member of the Transplant Team. As such, he/she assumes a leadership role in all aspects of the transplant program including clinical, administrative, and marketing processes for Newark Beth Israel Medical Center. The Transplant/Vascular Surgeon will provide cross coverage at Saint Barnabas Medical Center and share responsibility for On-Call with the Transplant Surgical Team. Perform renal and pancreas surgery at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center and Saint Barnabas Medical Center including living donor nephrectomy (open and laparoscopic). responsible for pre-surgical assessment and post-operative care for all surgical cases. Perform other surgery within scope of expertise Review charts, laboratory values, and radiology studies for upcoming living donor cases Attendance at weekly Living Donor Team meetings to review all active living donor cases Participation in bi-weekly Transplant Candidate Review Board (TCRB) Attend weekly Transplant Case Review Participate in daily transplant teaching rounds on the in-patient unit Participation in transplant surgery On-Call schedule discussions with coordinators as to the suitability of offered deceased donor organs Represents Newark Beth Israel Medical Center at Sharing Network Transplant Physicians meeting Represents Newark Beth Israel Medical Center at UNOS Region II meetings Participation in all Transplant Program Outreach Initiatives including attendance at planning meetings, and educational meetings with referring physicians from New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania Participation in research activities of the Newark Beth Israel Medical Center Transplant Program, may act as primary investigator in multi-center immunosuppresive drug trials, production of clinical case reports and at review for publication and presentation at National transplant meetings Prepare and present lectures in transplant surgery at a variety of forums including Coordinator Roundtable Meetings, Transplant Surgeon Designee courses, Grand Rounds, and patient seminars and support groups Attend and represent the Transplant Program at meeting of the American Transplant Congress Formalize, organize, and conduct a transplantation rotation for Surgical Residents. Be the on-site person responsible for surgical aspects of the Renal and Pancreas Transplant Service at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center Educate presently credentialed Vascular Surgeons in the latest techniques for vascular access in renal failure patients Assist the Chairman in the development of a regular CME granting teaching schedule including the recruitment of local, regional, and National speakers Serve as a resource, catalyst, and role model for scholary pursuits not only for Residents and Students but for attending Surgeons as well.
