UNIT HEAD - IT (Bioinformatics Systems)

Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, currently seeks a Bioinformatics Systems Unit Manager to direct IT staff, conduct staff recruitment and mentorship, and maintain high levels of customer satisfaction and application quality and availability. The selected candidate will be responsible for project coordination, planning and estimating, as well as budget administration, client/vendor management and strategic planning; plus coordinating technical resources that support research projects, journal publications, grant/contract preparation and scholarly activities. Research tasks include methodology and model design, development and evaluation. Operations-related functions include supporting management and analysis of internal/public genomic data resources and tool and workflow environments as critical components supporting our Bioinformatics Core including new methodology development.

 

These responsibilities require a self-motivated, results-driven professional and facilitator with strong interpersonal, time management and verbal/written communication skills. A bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field is necessary, plus 6+ years’ IT experience that includes technical, project and staff management, and 3-5 years managing or developing bioinformatics applications or systems backed by solid bioinformatics resources/tools/infrastructure knowledge. A broad understanding of current technologies and resources used in industry and academia is expected, plus the ability to manage full-scale project implementations.
