Vice President - Finance and Controller
The Position
The Controller, who will report directly to the President and Board of Directors, will be one of the key leadership positions in the company. This position is will work with the President to develop the financial strategy for the company’s future growth. The Controller will need to be able to successfully manage in a “hands on” entrepreneurial environment, balancing growth objectives with a need for additional financial controls. Financial reporting and analysis, budget setting and monitoring goals and progress according to plan will all be primary responsibility for this position.
The Company
The Company is a profitable health care services business located in the New York City area and is owned by a private equity firm.
Short-term priorities include:
· Manage the cash. Take a leadership role in proactively leading cash management in a leveraged environment.
· Create monthly and quarterly reporting package for banks and investors.
· Work with existing financial and reporting system. Continuing the evolution of automating and integrating accounting, budgeting, and reporting systems while also creating new systems where appropriate.
· Manage accounts receivable collection and accounts payable with the existing company accountant.
· Lead financial policies and corporate-wide financial controls to ensure accurate, consistent, and timely reporting of financial data.
· Integrate financial reporting with the strategic and operating plans to measure cost allocation and profitability across product lines, providing insightful reporting to management. This person must understand the profitability of planning new products. Implicit within this goal is understanding the financial sensitivity of the company by proactively addressing the “tough questions” within the organization as well as enhancing the financial management skills of operating and functional managers.
Key responsibilities of managing the financial affairs for this company include:
· Operating with a cohesive style consistent with the company’s unique culture. Ability to get along well with company managers is critical.
· Proactively managing the business analysis, administration, and planning functions.
· Monitoring and communicating the impact of various operational decisions on the company’s compliance with bank covenants and requirements.
· Preparing financial reports, making presentations to senior management and the Board of Directors, analyzing potential mergers and acquisitions.
· Managing company risk in all areas including information systems, operations, insurance, and compliance (government and other).The Individual
The ideal candidate has a C.P.A. and financial experience from a heath services company in which the services rendered are reimbursed from different sources including government and private pay insurance. Involvement with a leveraged, growing entrepreneurial company is ideal, as well as experience in health care industry. The individual must have high financial analysis acumen and the presence and ability to deal with the financial community at a senior level. He/she should possess an ability to assess financial systems. Additionally, the individual will be hands-on and willing to “roll-up his/her sleeves” to accomplish the objectives of the organization. Experience with acquisitions is a plus.
The successful candidate will be bright and energetic, detail oriented, and have a high regard for personal responsibility and accountability. He/she should have strong oral and written communication skills, a sense of humor, and the ability to work well in a team-management environment. This person will be tough and not afraid to challenge and be challenged. An entrepreneurial spirit and drive is critical and having a passion for his/her work and the success of the organization is vital. Finally, while not critical, the ability to speak Russian would be considered a plus due to a sub-section of employees.
