One day, the owners decided to bolster business by making toasted sandwiches. This was a stroke of genius. Soon, people who had no interest in antiques were enjoying sandwiches by the store’s old potbelly stove. Cookies were baked. Local musicians came to perform. Lines grew. And the little antique store became a totally unique sandwich joint and Chicago cult classic. Since then, Potbelly has expanded to more than 185 stores in multiple states and is growing by leaps and bounds across the U.S. We’re found in such diverse areas as college campuses, downtown city blocks, and the ’burbs.  Our plan is to increase our store count by 25% each year.  We are looking for a rock star Procurement Manager who can join our small but strong Supply Chain team to help us with this growth.What will you do? 1. In conjunction with QA and R&D, ensure that approved products are effectively purchased and distributed throughout the Potbelly Sandwich Works system from quality suppliers. 2. Effectively manage the costs assigned categories relative to budget and market conditions, inclusive of minimizing the risk and exposure of obsolete and discontinued inventory. 3. Develop and implement appropriate forward purchase positions, inclusive of hedging strategies, on various commodity products. 4. Ensure contract guideline and protocol is followed for proper documentation and development of all agreements for approved Potbelly suppliers. 5. Evaluate and implement strategic contracting, supplier development and cost management objectives. Report on a monthly basis the contract levels in terms of number of contracts developed, items under contract, and the dollar amount of the contracts. These levels are to be reported on a monthly and year to date basis in relation to targeted levels. What do you need? Education, Training & Certification: Bachelor’s degree in business or related field, such as economics. Contract law and negotiation skills. Computer skills in spreadsheet analytical tools, such as Excel or Access. MBA, with an emphasis in Purchasing or commodities management, ideal. Professional certification in purchasing or materials management, a plus. Experience in Similar Role or Function: 5-7 years experience in a purchasing organization with overall value chain analysis, reduction of non-value added costs, and commodity management. Logistics management experience, either internal or third party, a plus.
