The Account Consultant serves as the primary point of contact with medium sized customers (typically 100 - 1999 lives) and producers on all products. Primary duties include post sale activities, ongoing service for integrated customers, identification of block expansion opportunities, and developing strong relationships/ loyalty with customers and producers. The Account Consultant is required to design and implement the customized service strategy for each case in their respective service load. This position is the face to the customer in our core market. Function as an active field office team member, and perform project work and /or other duties as assigned.
Principal Duties and ResponsibilitiesNew Case Business: Partner with Sales Consultants and Implementation Manager (based on product or case complexity) to design and coordinate presentations, enrollments and timelines. Communicate and manage expectations with customers and brokers on new case implementations Coordinate presentations, proposal kits and pre-printed applications with the Sales Consultant, Implementation Manager (based on product or case complexity), and Central Rating Services Attend site visits with the customer to Portland/Chattanooga/Glendale Coordinate and conduct customer/broker meetings as needed Assemble teams (including Sales Consultant and Implementation Manager) at appropriate intervals throughout the sale, implementation and renewal process. Partner with Sales Consultants to manage and enhance producer relationships Renewal / Re-enrollment: Work with Sales Consultants, producers and customers to develop re-enrollment and renewal strategies. Prepares pre-renewal face to face visit to review claim experience exhibits, CRA reports, Customer Scorecards, Genex capabilities, IDM model discuss any issues prior to the actual renewal meeting. Specific to Multilife, coordinate, process and track policy changes, add-on’s, FAO’s and buy-up applications from implementation through policy placement Account Service / Management: Conduct proactive, face-to-face service calls with Group, VWB and Individual integrated customers and producers as appropriate Develop customer profile and proactive loyalty plans for all customers within assigned block of business Responsible for soliciting NBOC and NLOC business on the assigned block. Negotiate with Underwriting on plan design and contractual issues Serve as the primary liaison between producers, customers and home office functional areas for issue resolution Respond to and resolve customer inquiries and issues, involving home office areas as appropriate Other Responsibilities: Serves as mentor with other Account Consultants May perform other duties as assignedSolid track record in customer services from customer loyalty, technical and marketing perspectives Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to address large audiences Strong negotiation and persuasion skills Ability to effectively prioritize many convergent tasks Ability to successfully delegate activities to appropriate business partners Licensed to solicit insurance in the states within assigned territory Full understanding of underwriting and risk concepts Strong knowledge of the insurance industry / financial services, markets and competitors Ability to comprehend, analyze and explain contractual language Full understanding of Unum Group, Individual and Voluntary Workplace Benefits product portfolio for cross sell identification and solicitation, preferred College degree strongly preferred Minimum of 3 years in the employee benefit/individual service industry Active in local insurance community through advanced education and affiliation memberships Computer skills Ability to travel Unum offers competitive pay and excellent benefits.
