Accountant - Regulatory Reporting
MetLife, a leading provider of insurance and other financial services to individual and institutional customers, is seeking an Accountant – Regulatory Reporting in Long Island City, NY! Major Duties and Functions Include: Support the process of developing 10Qs, 10Ks and quarterly financial supplements. Evaluate financial statements and narratives by comparison to prior submissions, performance metrics, and macro-economic indicators. Identify variances and address reasons for the same with line management. Maintain appropriate documentation for future reference. Assist with concur reviews on filings prepared by related reporting groups. The filings include those with the SEC, Federal Reserve and rating agencies. This review process includes analytical procedures, data validation and checks for internal consistency. Proof-read presentations for senior management, including those prepared by other groups. Additional Responsibilities: Monitor submissions in keeping with close calendar and ensure that all information is provided by lines of business (LOBs) in a timely manner; suggest workarounds and escalate issues as necessary. Support the research and implementation of new accounting pronouncements / regulatory requirements. This includes reviewing proposed disclosures, developing report templates and assisting with the relevant elements of a company-wide project plan. Support the process of accounting for mergers, acquisitions, and divestitures. Identify and implement process improvements and automation. What You Need to Succeed: 2 – 4 years of experience in an Accounting / Finance role consistent with responsibilities outlined above Undergraduate degree in Accounting, Finance or related discipline. High degree of attention to detail. Strong analytical, interpersonal, communication and time-management skills. Ability to quickly understand an organization's operations and its accounting systems. Preferences: Prior leadership / mentorship experience Targeted attainment of graduate business degree and / or relevant professional certification (CPA, CFA, CMA) Prior experience with Excel Familiarity with PowerPoint Exposure to consolidation applications and / or tier-one GL systems Work shouldn’t be something you do just to make ends meet.
