Application Development Supervisor - ePAS

Citizens Property Insurance Corporation was created by Florida’s legislature in 2002 to serve property owners in high-risk areas and provide much-needed property coverage to Floridians who can’t obtain coverage in the voluntary market.  We are the largest P&C carrier in the State of Florida and we are growing!  Currently the following opportunity is available in our Tallahassee office:

 

Application Development Supervisor - ePAS

 

Position Summary:The position of Application Development Supervisor – ePAS Integration is responsible for leading a team tasked with assembling, packaging and deploying J2EE applications to various ePAS personal lines policy system production and non-production environments on a scheduled basis following Citizens change control policies and procedures. This position will work closely with other ePAS development team leads, the ePAS Product Architect, and the ePAS Release Manager to define and understand the content of code releases. This position is responsible for the technical definition and implementation of integration points between ePAS and other systems, both internal and external to Citizens. This position is considered an advanced level position intended for a professional with 5 or more years of full-time experience directly related to development of enterprise systems. Prior experience with the ePAS system is required.

 

Essential Functions:  

 

· Supervises staff through duties including performance management, workload distribution, productivity tracking, time off approval, timesheet approval, coaching sessions and other human resource management activities.

· Provides mentoring and leadership to other team members; in particular the development of training plans for staff.

· Reports project and development status periodically.

·  Assures standards and procedures as defined by the IT Enterprise Architecture Team, the ePAS Product Architect, and the Software Testing Center of Excellence (CoE) are adhered to by the Special Projects development team throughout the entire development lifecycle.

· Researches and recommends tools for source control and for assembling and packaging applications.

· Works closely with the ePAS Release Manager on the standards for release packaging and deploying.

· Works closely with technical leads of other Citizens systems and 3rd Party Tools to define, develop, and modify integration points between ePAS and other systems.

· Works on multiple projects and/or tasks at one time.

· Prioritizes work assignments for staff.

 

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

 

· Comprehensive and in-depth knowledge of the principles, concepts and theories of software development techniques and systems design as well as the ability to recognize, analyze and determine alternatives and take action to correct problem areas.

· Knowledge of Java related technologies such as Java, JavaScript, JSP, EJB, HTML, XML, and DB2.

· Knowledge of J2EE application servers such as IBM Websphere.

· A solid understanding of UML.

· Working knowledge of the Perforce source code repository tool.

· Ability to quickly triage production issues.

· Basic understanding of web application design and development

· WebSphere application server administration skills.

· Knowledge of web services and J2EE applications.

· Knowledge of assembly, packaging and deployment of J2EE application components.

· Ant scripting knowledge.

· Proficiency with Microsoft Office Systems including Word, Excel, Visio and PowerPoint.

· Must be able to communicate effectively with other team members both verbally and through e-mails.

· Selected candidate must be willing to and have the ability to learn the business at a rapid pace.

· Ability to navigate through and learn web-based applications.

· Ability to manage multiple tasks.

· Ability to learn and adapt to rapidly changing technology.

· Strong analytical and problem solving skills are required in addition to excellent inter-personnel, written, and verbal communication skills.

· Ability to communicate with both business departments and technical staff.

· Knowledge of SQL.

· Strong leadership skills.

· Strong oral, written and analytical skills.

· Ability to work independently; or under only general direction.

 

Minimum Requirements:

 

· Bachelors Degree in MIS, Computer Science, Computer Programming or equivalent experience.

· At least 3-4 years of Java application server administration experience. WebSphere server experience required.

· At least 3-4 years of application assembly, packaging and deployment experience.

· At least 3-4 years web server administration experience. IBM HTTP Server experience required.

· At least 1-2 years source control systems administration experience.

· At least 1-2 years J2EE Application Production Support experience.

· Experience with the ePAS policy system.

· Project management experience.

· Property Insurance industry experience preferred.

· Prior supervisory or management experience preferred.



 

OTHER REQUIREMENTS: 

· Requires the ability to sit for long periods of time and use a computer (6 or more hours per day).

· Requires the ability to work shifts outside of normal working hours, including weekends as requested.

· Requires the ability to support both planned and unplanned events.
