Associate Counsel

Responsibilities KEY SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE FOR THE POSITION BEING FILLED INCLUDE: •Contract drafting, negotiating and maintenance; technology acquisition and vendor service   agreements; resolution of disputes arising out of existing contracts. •Legal review of advertising and marketing materials. •Resolution of agency management issues. The Corporate Legal Department is responsible for providing legal services, advice and counsel regarding legal and business matters. Each Associate Counsel:Provides legal advice and counsel to management, including direct interaction with senior executives, in areas of legal specialization and in general legal matters to assist in addressing a wide range of legal and business issues. Ensures efficient and quality legal advice and counsel is provided through written or verbal communication. Interacts with policyholders, employees, agents, agencies, vendors and other business contacts as necessary. Represents Sentry, or selects and supervises outside counsel in the representation of Sentry, in contested matters arising in courts, in administrative agencies and before regulatory bodies across the U.S. and in other countries in which Sentry has interests. Manages and controls expenses to contribute to the overall goals of the Corporate Legal Department. Drafts documents, agreements, contracts and other materials requiring specific legal expertise. Plans strategies for solving various legal and business problems, including litigation strategy, and has the primary responsibility for providing legal advice on these matters to management. Assists management in developing operational strategies and solutions relating to corporate policy. Reviews and analyzes enacted and proposed state and federal laws and regulations that affect Sentry, and advises of the implications of such laws, regulations and draft legislation. Works on special projects assigned by the General Counsel. This project work normally involves research and recommendations on matters having companywide significance. Develops and maintains professional contacts with other companies' legal departments and with members of local, state and national bar groups. Represents Sentry in industry groups as assigned.Qualifications JD Degree. Strong academic background and a Juris Doctor degree from a law school accredited by the American Bar Association. License to practice law. 8 years of related work experience. Proven ability to interact effectively with a variety of people. Expertise in a specific area of law utilized in work experience with a law firm, an insurance company, a corporation or a government agency.
