General Purpose of the Job

Assists in the administration of various employee benefit plans such as life, health, dental, and disability insurances, pension plans, vacation, sick leave, leave of absence, and unemployment.  Also maintains employee satisfaction as well as administration of the new hire paperwork for the concrete division by performing the following duties.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

1. Be responsive to employee needs as they relate to benefits; answer questions and concerns in a timely manner

2. Enrolls new employees in benefit plans and provides benefits orientation.

3. Provides assistance with benefit claims relating to medical, dental, life, pension, and disability benefits.

4. Processes status changes and updates appropriate database for termination of benefits and/or implementation of benefits.

5. Processes open enrollment benefit plan transfers and communication materials.

a. Holds annual employee meetings and a spouse’s open house

6. Maintains vendor contact to investigate discrepancies and provide information in non-routine situations.

7. Assist the human resources director with evaluating and comparing existing employee benefits with those of other employers by analyzing other plans, surveys, and other sources of information.

8. Assist with analyzing results of comparison and surveys and develops specific recommendations for review by management.

9. Analyzes employee utilization of current benefits and develops specific recommendations for review by management.

10. Assists in preparing materials and in presenting benefit plan changes to employees.

11. Responsible for issuing annual Total Comp Statements to employees on an annual basis.

12. Processes the monthly billing for all benefit plans

13. Give payroll any STD & LTD amounts each month so the data can be entered into payroll

14. Assist with the 401(k) meetings help on an as needed basis.

15. Responsible for COBRA compliance

16. Run a list of employees for random drug testing as needed

17. Communicate with the companies credit union when new enrollments are received

18. Processes leave of absence approvals and rejections. (FMLA, Personal, etc.)

19. Primary back-up to the HR Director.

 

Must have the ability to read and write both English and Spanish.  Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations in either language.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
