CAT Risk Management Reinsurance Analyst

Major Duties and Functions Include: This job is responsible for producing, understanding and analyzing catastrophe modeling output and reinsurance data. Catastrophe modeling responsibilities include the running of the catastrophe specific software, for hurricanes, earthquakes, tornadoes/hail, brush fires and winter storms, and analyzing of the results that are then used to calculate the Company’s Probable Maximum Loss and Expected Average Annual Loss. These statistics are used in the management of the Company’s volatility/catastrophe risk management programs, which the Company implements and monitors, as well as in the determination of state catastrophe allowances used in pricing and state management. Reinsurance responsibilities include the determination of the exposure to be reinsured, reinsurance pricing analysis, and the collection of reinsurance recoveries. This information is used to determine how much reinsurance to buy, by accounting to calculate net financial results and by pricing to properly reflect reinsurance costs in setting prices. What You Need to Succeed: Three years or more experience in insurance or catastrophe modeling. Base Line, limited functional knowledge. Strong math and statistics skills and interest. Knowledge and strong interest in weather and catastrophes. Knowledge of data used in catastrophe modeling. Knowledge of data available that may add value in catastrophe modeling.  Knowledge of the strengths and weaknesses of various catastrophe models by peril. Knowledge of reinsurance program structure.
