We are one of the leading insurance companies in the United States.  Our superior financial strength and consistent record of strong operating returns mean security for our customers - and opportunities for our employees.  You will find Travelers to be full of energy and a workplace in which you truly can make a difference. We are currently looking for a Claim Technical Specialist - Northland.  Please read on for more details regarding this position. JOB DESCRIPTION: Summary:Investigate, evaluate, and negotiate all claim aspects of coverage, liability and causation/damages to resolve commercial claims in all states Respond to customer requests and utilize Best Practices to ensure file quality. Primary Duties:*Handle 1st and 3rd party liability commercial claims with moderate to high exposure and complexity.  Exposures typically up to $100,000 but will be required to handle exposures of $1M and higher.  Deal with policy limits of $1M and more. *Provide contact within 24 hours of first report depending on type/date of loss.  Two hour contact is recommended. *Coordinate investigation to obtain facts in order to determine coverage, liability and causation/damages.  Resolve claims in a timely manner as investigation dictates. *Establish and maintain timely and adequate claim reserves. *Accurately document and input loss information into an automated claim system. *Recognize fraud, subrogation and salvage opportunities and refer to appropriate expert/department. *Consistently provide high level customer service. *Attend claim committees and training sessions. *Work independently with low levels of supervision. *Handle litigation on moderate to high complexity/exposure cases. *High level of skill in policy contract analysis and must be able to recognize and act on complex coverage issues and report immediately to unit manager. *Will write coverage and Reservation of Rights letters. *Ensure timely and efficient work progress of adjusters, appraisers, staff/panel counsel and other experts as warranted. *Develop strong understanding of Federal and State transportation regulations. *Expense management. *Understand and apply statutory law to claim investigation and case evaluation. *Verify the nature and extent of injury by obtaining, reviewing and evaluating appropriate medical records and documentation. *Recognize and implement alternate means of case resolution *Attend depositions, mediations, arbitrations, pre-trials, trials and other legal proceedings. *Hire defense counsel as directed; complete suit transmittals and manage progress of litigation. *Develop litigation plan and budget with defense counsel and track adherence to plan in order to monitor legal expenses and assure effective resolution. *Report to reinsurers as required. *Recognize cases subject to CFA requirements and report on a timely basis. *Provide timely and accurate trial reports. Education/Course of Study:*College degree or equivalent work experience. Certificates/Degrees*Licenses as required by state regulation Communication Skills*Strong negotiation and customer service skills.*Customer focus/Communication. Computer Skills:*Keyboard skills and proficiency in Word*Technology Other:*Strong organizational skills.*File management*Technical reasoning skills*Relationship management In addition to an exciting environment, we offer: * Competitive base salary with additional opportunities for variable pay through recognition programs and incentive awards * 401(k) with company match* Comprehensive health plans that include coverage for same sex/domestic partners* Strong work/family and employee assistance programs* Tuition reimbursement * Vacation Purchase Plan* Training/Development opportunities We are proud to provide comprehensive, high quality employee programs to meet employees' needs now and in the future, including a very competitive financial package.
