Commercial Field Underwriter Are you an individual with demonstrated analytical skills, decision-making abilities and sales aptitude? As a Senior Commercial Lines Field Underwriter for Safeco Business Insurance, the individual chosen will underwrite and price both new and renewal commercial business within their assigned territory. This Senior Underwriter will provide a high level of customer service, delivering timely responses to agents on quotes, new business and renewals. In addition, the selected candidate will assist the assigned group of agents on the Safeco Business Insurance products, programs, philosophy and computer systems.This is a virtual position. As such, the selected candidate will work from their home, and service a group of about 20 agents. This position reports to our Region underwriting service office, located in Connecticut.The Field Underwriter maintains a high level of knowledge of coverages, exposures, rating plans, state requirements, competitors, market conditions and company programs. The individual will be expected to negotiate specific accounts, drive new business flow to our automated platform and develop growth plans for their assigned agents. Superior sales skills and a proven record of influencing others is a must. Communication, presentation and PC skills (including Microsoft Products) must be well developed and proven. Approximately 50% of the field underwriter's work week will be spent in the field working directly and personally with agents. Some overnight travel will be required.This position requires: At least three years of Commercial Multi-peril Underwriting experience. Demonstrated knowledge of the property & casualty industry. A four year degree is preferred. Some work toward professional designations (CPCU, CIC, ARM, etc.).The territory for this position is dependent on the location of the individual hired.
