Allstate was founded in 1931 and became a publicly traded company in 1993. The Allstate Foundation Teen Driving Program Communications ConsultantThis individual will be a member of Allstate’s Corporate Relations department in Northbrook, Ill.  The Corporate Relations department oversees external public relations and internal communications on behalf of The Allstate Corporation.  Functions in the department include communication strategy, public social responsibility (including corporate positioning, community relations and corporate contributions), media relations, government affairs, issues management, The Allstate Foundation, shareholder communications, executive support and employee and agency-owner communications. The Allstate Foundation Teen Driving program is designed to reduce the number of teens killed or injured in motor vehicle crashes.  Car crashes are the number one killer of U.S. teens.  Each year, nearly 6,000 teens are killed and more than 300,000 injured in crashes. The program’s goal is to change the way teens think and act when they get into a car by making smart driving socially acceptable to teens.   Working with a corporate relations manager and a senior communications consultant, as well as internal and external resources, the individual’s primary responsibilities will be to: Continue to grow the “Keep the Drive” teen-to-teen smart driving movement.  This individual will be responsible for mobilizing teens to understand the driving issue, talk to their peers about it and become smart driving advocates and activists in their communities and online.  This includes:  Recruiting, managing and motivating the program’s teen panel, known as the Drive Crew, made up of more than 45 diverse teens from throughout the nation who serve as advisors and lead activists. Coordinating Keep the Drive national and local teen driving summits. Participating in the development, execution and evaluation of a robust schedule of on-the-ground and online teen activism projects. Developing, managing and evaluating partnerships with national nonprofit organizations that reach the teens. Help develop strategic program communications, including: Assisting in the development and execution of social marketing campaigns that reach teens in genuine and compelling ways. Working with outside vendors to update the program’s public and private Web sites. Writing a variety of internal and external program communications. Serving as a spokesperson for the teen movement in select traditional and nontraditional media outlets. Support the Teen Driving team by providing strategic input and logistical support for key internal and external meetings related to the program.Qualifications 2 to 5 years of professional experience in communications, ideally in a corporate or public relations agency setting. Outstanding project management skills, including event management experience and proven ability to manage and track budgets. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Strategic and creative thinking while working individually and as part of a team. Ability to work with a variety of individuals within and outside of the company, including: teens and their parents or faculty advisors; nonprofit staff members; consultants; vendors; and, Allstate employees and agency owners. Ability to travel inside the United States (one or two times a month). Experience or interest in teen marketing / lifestyles and popular teen social media outlets desired, but not required. College degree in journalism, communications or public relations preferred.
