DB2 DBA - Contract to Hire

Location: Chicago, IL Employment Type: Full Time, Temporary/Contract/Project, Employee Pay Rate: 80,000.00 - 99,000.00 USD /year DB2 DBA – Contract to hire  To help us continue driving our business forward, we’re in search of two DB2 DBA’s  to work for our client in downtown Chicago, contract-to-hire .   Job DescriptionThe manager is looking for a Sr. Level DB2 DBA to come on board to assist with the day to day support of Z/OS DB2 databases.  Must be me familiar with standard DBA functions, strong analysis skills, ability to work with development team to debug application issues.  Under general supervision, is responsible for the support and operation of commercial database management software and related facilities which includes query tools, data management tools, development tools, performance monitors and utility software.  This position applies to mainframe, Unix or NT databases.  This person is viewed as an expert in database analysis and development.  Undertakes complex database projects requiring additional specialized technical knowledge.  Makes well-thought-out decisions on complex or ambiguous database issues.  Coordinates with users to determine requirements.  Ensures that database improvements are successfully implemented and monitored to increase efficiency.  Required Skills 5+ years experience with DB2 in an OS/390 (z/OS) environment with most on DB2 Ver7 or higher.  Experienced in DCL, DDL, DML, JCL and utilities (both z/OS and DB2), creation, debugging and tuning. Excellent analytical, problem solving and trouble shooting skills related to OS/390 (z/OS) development, operations and support. Experience using the IBM DB2 system tables not just 3rd part software.  Excellent oral / written communication skills to be able to work with a variety of users and cross functional teams. Proven initiative, ability to work with minimal supervision and adhere to schedules. Since this is an operational support role, candidates must be flexible to accept schedule tasks or on short notice for completion after normal business hours or weekends.   Bonus Skills Some experience with one or more performance monitoring products. Some experience with a one or more change management products. Some programming experience preferably COBOL.
