Database Administrator (DBA)

Company:  Insurance start-up with principal locations in Bermuda and NYC. 

 

 

Summary: As the Database Administrator you will be responsible for the establishment and implementation of best practices regarding data definition, data quality, data security, and data integration for existing and new Microsoft SQL Server implementations.  You should be an expert in SQL Server, and ideally conversant in other database technologies.  You will have interaction with all members of the IT team, and work day to day with members of the Development Team, the Infrastructure team, and Vendor Services teams.  You will report to the Head of Application Development. 

 

Duties/Responsibilities Lead SQL Server software installation, maintenance and conversionsMaintain multiple databases in development, test, and production environmentsPerform database security configuration and administrationDevelop and implement backup and recovery strategiesPerform logical database design and physical database implementationsCreate, test, and conduct performance tuning on SQL Server databasesDevelop SQL processes for data loading, migration and application interfacesCreate deployment scripts, including rollback scripts, for all SQL Server changesDevelop and enforce organizational SQL standards and best practicesWork with the development team on aspects of database design including tables, views, stored procedures, permissions, etc Due diligence of vendor provided solutions as they pertain to the database architectureWork with the internal and vendor teams to define the Data Warehouse solution for the companyAdherence to SDLC standards and vision, including providing direction on the application build and deployment processesOther duties may be assigned.

 

Skills:SQL Server installation and maintenanceT-SQL, SQL and scriptingBackup and recoveryDatabase design and modeling; as well as creation and tuning. Strong knowledge of systems development life cycle (SDLC). Vendor evaluation experience preferred
