We are one of the leading insurance companies in the United States.  Our superior financial strength and consistent record of strong operating returns mean security for our customers - and opportunities for our employees.  You will find Travelers to be full of energy and a workplace in which you truly can make a difference. We are currently looking for a Director, Sales & Business Development.  Please read on for more details regarding this position. JOB DESCRIPTION: SUMMARY:Lead the effort to identify, qualify, select and contract with new National Distribution partners (sponsored programs, national agency appointments, financial institutions) to help drive new business. PRIMARY DUTIES:- Champion prospective accounts through a process of identification, selection, development of demographic information.- Identify/develop relationships and network with production sources (agents, brokers, field sales force) and prospective accounts.- Conduct market research on evolving opportunities and segments.  - Educate/motivate field force, agents/brokers and prospective accounts.- Maintain relationships with sold accounts to maximize production/profit objectives. COMMUNICATION SKILLS:Clear logical, effective written/verbal skills, strong negotiation and facilitation skills, open and accessible listener, strong presentation skills in front of groups and external decision makers. OTHER:Leadership:  Ability to motivate through enthusiasm and example, credible, ethical and professional in all relationships, takes initiative, self-motivated, promotes and models team building behavior. Management of Resources:  Effective utilization of team resources, able to handle multiple tasks/projects. Building Teamwork:  Builds a dynamic, multifaceted network of effective internal and external relationships across organizational lines.  Promotes team spirit. Business & Organization Knowledge:  Solid understanding of Personal Insurance business and agency distribution systems, knowledge of sponsored market environment, competition and emerging trends, in depth knowledge of operational, business and industry issues. Customer Focus:  Sensitive to agents, field force, sponsor's needs and promotes customer-oriented culture.  - Collaborative effort with team, service center, field force, agents, customers  - Clearly defined market strategy   - Disciplined sales and underwriting standards/processes  - Comprehensive understanding of the sponsored market and competition   - Expertise in account development, marketing and sales In addition to an exciting environment, we offer: * Competitive base salary with additional opportunities for variable pay through recognition programs and incentive awards * 401(k) with company match* Comprehensive health plans that include coverage for same sex/domestic partners* Strong work/family and employee assistance programs* Tuition reimbursement * Vacation Purchase Plan* Training/Development opportunities We are proud to provide comprehensive, high quality employee programs to meet employees' needs now and in the future, including a very competitive financial package.
