EDI Programmer/ Analyst

The EDI Programmer/Analyst is responsible for designing, developing, unit-testing, implementing and maintaining EDI-centric software systems to meet our client or company needs.  In addition, the individual is responsible for assisting in detailing specifications for those applications and otherwise documenting them – to ensure they are built properly in the first place, and then are easier to maintain thereafter.

Specifically the EDI Programmer/Analyst will develop X12 HIPAA solutions in an integrated, multi-platform environment. The successful candidate will have previous health care centric EDI programming and process experience, detailed knowledge of X12 HIPAA transactions, including technical aspects as well as business usage. Finally, understanding of relational database systems and other programming languages and tools is necessary (see below). Prior experience with integrated, multi-platform systems is also preferred.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:providing production support and problem diagnosis and resolution for EDI based transactions and supporting processes; gathering business requirements and preparing functional specification documentation for a non-technical audiences; testing and implementing code In accord with our QA and change control processes; working with multiple programming/scripting languages – including EDI, XML as well as Visual Basic 2005, SQL, HTML, JavaScript and CSS – to produce solutions that support all EDI based transactions and processes within our company; re-factoring and redeveloping existing systems by analyzing and identifying areas for modification and improvement; integrating scripting/programming solutions with our claims adjudication system maintaining systems by identifying and correcting software defects; working with commercial software packages (see below); investigating new technologies as requested (see below); working closely with staff such as business analysts, project managers, customer service staff, claims analysts, plan builders other programmers, operations staff, administrative staff, etc.;

Requirements include:

· Knowledge of (EDI specific) translation mapping tools (to be recommended);

· Knowledge of (EDI specific) design tools (to be recommended);

· Knowledge of Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) X12 standards.  In depth technical knowledge of HIPAA Transaction Sets is strongly preferred - 270/271, 276/277, 278, 820, 834, 835, 836, 837, 997. Experience with XML is a plus;

· Knowledge of  operating systems including Windows XP, 2003 (server) and Linux/Unix (shell scripting knowledge is desirable)

· Knowledge of databases – specifically Microsoft SQL Server 2000 and 2005

· Knowledge of system integration tools including FTP, MSMQ, SFTP, etc.

· Knowledge of protocols including TCP/IP and HTTP

· Knowledge of  other programming/scripting languages including VB 2005, SQL, XML/XSL

· Knowledge of Visual Studio and Visual Source Safe
