JOB DESCRIPTION:
Strong leadership role in helping to build and shape an Employee Relations Department. Will be instrumental in formulating Employee Relations policies, procedures and practices, in developing strong partnerships with business executives in supporting their objectives, and in creating proactive programs to give managers the necessary tools to identify, resolve, and possibly avoid employee relations issues. Manages programs designed to establish and maintain effective and positive employee relations through the uniform and equitable application of organization policies and procedures.
Ensures compliance with federal, state and local laws and regulations.Responsible for building employee relations capability and enabling management effectiveness through the execution of proactive employee relations initiatives. Partner with Corporate Training Manager to develop management training programs.Consult and partner with VP of Human Resources and other departments, as necessary, to provide employees with accurate information regarding, leaves of absence, FMLA, ADA, Workers Comp. and other HR programs and policies. Investigate and resolve employee complaints, issues and concerns regarding employment practices originating from various sources. Strategize regarding appropriate corrective action and work with respective manager to implement such action.Execute and monitor grievance and disciplinary policies and procedures to ensure fairness and consistency. Implement and execute employee relations programs & practices that create a positive organizational culture and enable management effectiveness. Promote, monitor and measure the effectiveness of employee relations activities. Responsible for supporting employee relations activities, including increased employee retention and satisfaction.Can effectively identify core issues within and successfully navigate through gray areas of employee and labor relations. Provide expert advice and guidance to managers and supervisors in counseling their employees in areas such as: conduct and ethics, time and attendance, leave and pay; provide expert support and guidance to managers in writing employee grievances; provide support with EEO reporting and prohibited personnel practices; provide guidance to less experienced employees. Audits organization to identify employee relations issues and recommends appropriate actions to address and resolve those issues. Participates in exit interviews, disciplinary, grievance and involuntary separation activities. Assists in the development of human resources policies.
Experienced knowledge of all areas of employment law, discrimination, harassment, EEO, FMLA, ADA, and FLSA. Must have proven performance in an Employee Relations role; strong expertise in HR practices, procedures and policies. Excellent communication, interpersonal, conflict resolution and problem-solving skills. Strong, demonstrated leadership skills, including persuasion/negotiation skills. Strong, well-honed reasoning and decision-making abilities. Ability to be proactive, take initiative, and carefully monitor, follow through, and complete every project/responsibility. Advanced PC skills including Outlook and Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint). Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources or related degree preferred. Minimum of five to seven years human resources experience preferred. PHR / SPHR Certification desired, but not required.
