DescriptionBasic Function:Manages and coordinates the work of highly skilled Engineering staff, placing particular emphasis on research and development with the objective of developing new product lines and expanding existing product lines within the basic concept of accessories for the industry. Supervises day-to-day Engineering functions.Scope:To introduce new products and follow through on their development from concept to full production. General supervision of the Engineering office and staff.Essential Functions:• Responsible for research and development of new product lines.• Supervises and coordinates the activities of the Engineering department.• Directs drafting department in preparation of drawings, procedures, sketches etc., necessary for the development of new products.• Assists the manufacturing department in the development of processes and molds necessary to produce the product.• Conducts a continuous search of new materials, processes, and procedures to enhance and improve the product line.• Prepares research and development requests and justifications.• Prepares budget and schedules for the development of new product lines.• Maintains system of budget and schedule controlRequired SkillsAdditional Responsibilities:• Performs other Engineering duties as assigned• Assists marketing in sales presentations, catalogs, and general advertising literature.Responsibility and Authority:• Employee Relations: Must facilitate good working relationships among subordinates.• Materials or Prodcuts: Responsible for care of a broad variety of materials and experimental products.• Equipment: Responsible for care of standard office equipment and a variety of shop and test equipment.• Money: Considerable damage or loss is possible but can be prevented by using a high degree of care and attention.• Business Contacts: Contacts with persons inside or outside the company where matters discussed require resourcefulness, tact, and a working knowledge of policies, practices and procedures.Required ExperienceEducation, Experience and Knowledge:• B.S. Degree in Engineering or equivalent.• Minimum of eight years in Research and Development Engineering or related field.• Sound knowledge of engineering theory and design criteria.• Knowledge of Auto-Cad a plusWorking Conditions:Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment. No or very limited physical effort required.
