Field Investigator Special Investigations Unit

   

The MAIF Claims Department has a vacancy for a Special Investigations Unit field investigator to work out of our Annapolis office, primarily in the Baltimore /Washington metropolitan areas. This position will report to a Claims Manager, and will not supervise other employees. This is a flex time position scheduled for 40 hours each week. Duties of the position will require work during evenings, weekends or holidays. Additional hours worked, with prior supervisory approval, will be compensated as compensatory time.

 

The successful candidate will be provided a company car to conduct investigations statewide. A monthly commuting fee is charged based on calculations by fiscal which are reviewed and approved by the executive department annually and reported as a benefit on behalf of the employee.

 

The duties of the position include functioning as a field investigator for the SIU/FCR Unit. Investigations and field assignments conducted support the activity of both the Claim and Underwriting departments. You will be required to document your investigative activity during the course of your investigation and submit a final written report to the manager at its conclusion. You may be called upon to supply testimony in both civil and criminal cases as an investigator, record custodian or expert witness. This position requires interaction with various public agencies, insurance company personnel and law enforcement agencies. You may be called upon to provide training in detecting and deterring fraud and will perform other duties as required.

 

This position requires a BS/BA and three years of experience in auto claims handling, law enforcement, field investigations, or related work. Additional experience may substitute for the required education on a year to year basis.  The ideal candidate should have a strong investigative background with prior experience in detecting and deterring fraud. Claims experience handling PD, BI, PIP, UM investigations and familiarity with the Unfair Claims Practices act is desirable. Bilingual investigators are encouraged to apply.

 

The selected candidate must also successfully complete the MAIF reference and background check. An unfavorable background check may make a person ineligible for this position.
