This position directly supports MassMutual’s strategic initiatives by supporting our web-based learning management system and learning content development platform. MassMutual University delivers interactive web-based training and distance learning to MassMutual producers located throughout the United States. This position requires a creative and innovative problem-solver who is capable of bringing simple, elegant solutions to a fast-paced environment and who works well as part of a creative team. The successful candidate will be well versed in XML and HTML and have a thorough understanding of RSS feeds, blogs, podcasting and knowledge of internet video distribution. This position is also responsible for providing first-level technical support to the Field Training & Development organization. RESPONSIBILITIES Works closely with subject matter experts to identify business requirements for new or revised systems. Evaluates requirements and makes recommendations for new or revised computer and software systems. Assumes a leadership role in determining specifications for enhancements to existing applications. Helps departmental managers develop their technology plans and associated budgets. Continually researches leading and emerging technologies for potential application to learning. Develops and writes test plans that include all features for new products, enhancements and upgrades. Executes test plans, gathers user data and recommends changes to management based upon the results. Researches technical problems, ensures corrective action, then documents and communicates findings. Analyzes requirements and builds local databases and reporting tools as needed; works with IT organizations to develop larger-scale database tools. Works closely with management, IT resources and systems architects to coordinate deployment of new systems or enhancements. Creates flash-based banner ads for placement on intranet sites and MassMutual University. Creates and maintains MassMutual University vendor links to external websites. Works closely with IT resources to develop Learning Management System feeds to enterprise applications. Builds and maintains RSS feeds to distribute podcasts and blogs. Troubleshoots hardware, operating system and software issues for Field Training & Development organization; coordinates corrective action with appropriate internal or vendor resources. Ensures appropriate posting of web content in the enterprise content management system. Produces requested queries and reports from existing computerized systems. Coordinates periodic software updates to training systems. The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent team and leadership skills and have the ability to “see the big picture.” Also required are the abilities to effectively plan, organize and execute plans, generate ideas and potential solutions, relate technical information in context considering the skill level of the audience and multi-task. REQUIREMENTS Bachelor degree in Computer Science or related discipline (or equivalent experience). Experience in systems analysis and application development or an equivalent combination of education and work experience. Strong judgment and communication skills. Ability to work effectively with agents, agency staff and IT representatives. 5-7 years programming experience Proficiency in XML, XSLT, HTML, JavaScript, and Java are required. Experience in SQL, ActionScript, C++ is preferred. Vignette or other content management system experience is preferred Flash development skills are strongly preferred. Experience with adult learning theory and instructional design is preferred. Good understanding of the Windows XP and Vista operating systems and Microsoft Office applications. Good understanding of open source resources and software tools is helpful. Experience with Apple iTunes and other podcast aggregators is helpfulThis opening currently resides in Springfield, MA.
