To someone who has just had an accident, the claims service representative is the voice of GEICO. The Claims Service Representative (CSR) receives telephone calls from policyholders, claimants and repair shops regarding accidents and repair bills. The CSR takes the initial claim and handles (to completion) the majority of all claims that are reported. They verify accident facts and determine policy coverage. If there are no issues with policy coverage, no question as to fault and no injuries, the CSRs review and settle the claims by telephone. While talking to our customers is a top priority, another essential element of the CSR’s job is the ability to manage their time and resources effectively. The CSR must handle incoming calls and make outbound calls for additional information while processing necessary paperwork to close claims as quickly and efficiently as possible. Decision making is also a critical part of the job, as the CSR is responsible for gathering accident information and determining coverage and payout amounts. Newly hired CSRs go through an intense six week training program, learning the basic concepts of insurance from policy contracts to negotiation.
