Please read on for more details regarding this position. JOB DESCRIPTION: SUMMARY:Provides cost-effective, high-quality legal advice on coverage to Travelers. Manages litigation in which Travelers is a party.Focus on Construction Defect Claim. **Position can be located in Alpharetta or Charlotte. PRIMARY DUTIES:Provides legal advice on coverage to Construction Defect claims personnel and business managers where applicable law, statutes, regulations and court decisions are unclear or conflicting. Develops and implements cost-effective legal strategies on complex claims, petitions or lawsuits. Determines appropriate action on litigation; provides advice on possible outcomes, awards and settlements. Prepares defense positions and legal strategies, engaging and managing outside counsel as required. Prepares and utilizes motions, briefs, pleadings, legal documents, correspondence and memoranda to identify and protect legal interests of the company and/or its insureds. Proposes, prepares and responds to and evaluates oral and written discovery.Has frequent, independent contact with clients, client's employees, witnesses, experts and adversaries through counsel.Maintains awareness of judicial climate, current case law decisions, skillful defense techniques and professional expertise through the review of legal publications, seminar/conference attendance. Acts as mentor and coach to less senior attorneys, paralegal/staff; explains issues, ideas and concepts that are incorporated into work assignments. Ensures timely submission of timesheets, reports and other materials as required. Reviews and approves invoices for retained counsel to ensure appropriate expenses incurred and compliance with corporate retention agreement. EXPERIENCE4-9 years property/casualty insurance coverage experience. Experience with Construction Defect insurance coverage issues and claim handling litigation helpful. EDUCATION/COURSE OF STUDY:JD degree or LLM CERTIFICATES/DEGREES:Admitted to the Bar COMMUNICATION SKILLS:Strong and persuasive written, oral and presentation skills COMPUTER SKILLS:Strong PC skills, including WORD and EXCEL OTHER:Strong research skills.Strong negotiation skillsEffectively uses resources to achieve results.Organized; strong time management; able to multi-task Self-Management: takes responsibility for decisions and actions; successfully handles multiple priorities which may be in conflict.Substantial technical knowledge of legal environment, rules, judiciary, adversaries and expert witnesses.Strong knowledge of property/casualty business, products and services.Clearly relates unit expectations and goals to the business unit mission.Clearly demonstrated sense of urgency and bias for action Ability to work well under pressure independently and as part of a team Ability to forge strong working relationships at senior levelsAnticipates clients on-going legal needs. Follows up to ensure clients are satisfied. Effectively articulates legal issues to team members, clients, management and external parties.
