SUMMARY:
Applies knowledge of mathematics, finance, probability, and statistics to healthprovider contracting situations

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Intermediate Actuarial Analyst on the Provider Contracting team supports thenegotiation of Blue Shield hospital and surgery center contracts, ensuringtimely and accurate quantitative analyses of existing and alternativereimbursement arrangements.

Uses actuarial concepts and company policies and procedures in their contractinganalytic analysis. Working knowledge of mathematics, probability, statistics,principles of finance and business.

Interacts directly with BSC Network Management contracting personnel to analyzeand formulate proposals. In addition, act as the technical expert, explaining toanalysis results and key drivers to the contracting personnel.

Participates directly in negotiations with providers as technical expert, alongwith Actuarial Management, when asked to do so by Network Management

Supports coworkers and contracting analytic process by developing, updating andmaintaining department reports and analytical tools.

When requested performs ad hoc analytical analysis, typically of a cost ofhealthcare nature related to a contractual provider reimbursement.

Demonstrates high level of skill and proficiency in application of softwaretools. Particularly, knowledge of SAS, Microsoft Access and Excel, as well asVisual Basic.

Strong interpersonal and problem solving skills

Good communication skills, including ability to translate a technical analysisto a broader, less technical audience.

Bachelor's degree and three years relevant experience or equivalent combinationof education and experience.
