Life Science Team Leader

As the Western Underwriting Center''s Life Science Team Leader you will be part of a diverse leadership team accountable for the underwriting of the Western Underwriting Center''s Life Science business. You will also be held jointly accountable for contributing the achievement of the Western Underwriting Center (WUC) and Corporate goals related to profit, growth, retention, service and producer/client relations. You will directly accountable for:
•Financial performance of a $21million multi-line Life Science book of renewal business consisting of 1,100 customers in 2,900 policies produced from the Western, Southern and Northern Zone branches
•The management of a personal portfolio of Life Science renewal business totaling $3-5 Million in GWP from 150-200 customers and 300-500 policies.
•Direct supervision of a team of 4 Life Science specialists and the indirect leadership of 1 Life Science underwriting associate including all recruitment, performance management and developmental activities.
•Providing direct reports with leadership, direction, and coaching to achieve WUC related underwriting and efficiency objectives.
•The formulation of training and development plans so as to improve overall underwriting competencies and specialized Life Science underwriting skills necessary to achieve the TIS department''s desired business results and outcomes.
•Successful agency management including acting as a key contact to build, maintain and manage superior customer/broker relationships for the Western Underwriting Center.
•Communicating with key agents to assess the performance of your staff and the overall workflows of the Life Science/TIS department and the Western Underwriting Center.
•Identifying growth and account rounding opportunities within new and existing books of business
•Meeting both the internal and external service standards of a customer focused strategy.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
•Solid knowledge of commercial underwriting and insurance industry theories, practices and experience.
•Demonstrated Life Science or Technology Underwriting technical expertise and product specific knowledge coupled with proven and successful sales skills.
•Experience in developing marketing plans and handling complex accounts.
•Demonstrated success in developing, engaging and retaining talent.
•Strong interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills. Ability to effectively
Interact with all levels of internal and external business partners.

Education and Experience:
•Bachelor's degree or equivalent 3-5 years of industry/underwriting experience.
