Plans, directs, and controls the resources and efforts of staff to accomplish the sales and renewals objectives of WellPoint and Large Group Sales organizations or of a sales organization selling and renewing multiple lines of business. Works with current resources (people, material, and support) to get things accomplished. Manages resources effectively and efficiently to support strategic sales goals. Develops and maintains effective business relationships with agencies, brokers and consulting firms. Provides leadership in motivating subordinates to accomplish goals and objectives. Hires qualified staff for assigned areas or functions. Develops a strong team through training and effective organizational development practices. Reports sales status and progress to senior management. Ensures achievement of sales production goals and deliverables for assigned market areas. Implements the policies, practices, and procedures of WellPoint and WellPoint organizations. Has fiscal responsibility for assigned budgets, if applicable. Establishes relationships with functional areas within WellPoint. Performs a dual role of first level sales management with office goals and assigned personal sales goal. Responsible for meeting or exceeding office and personal sales and renewal targets. Has administrative responsibilities for assigned office. Establishes and maintains regional or local brokers within assigned office market area to generate new business sales and increase market penetration. Develops own proposals or reviews proposals developed by assigned Sales staff. Responsible for hiring, training, motivating, developing performance appraisals, counseling staff Works with RVP, Sales or Managing Director, Group Sales to establish sales and renewal targets for the office. Develops effective goal setting process for assigned staff. Provides managerial support to sales staff for new business leads or to close deals. Develops sales and business development strategies for assigned office. Monitors the market performance of products and assesses competitors' activities within assigned office market area. Develops recommendations to Sales Management on the marketplace dynamics, including competitors. Remains informed of various enhancements to the product lines offered by WellPoint to potential accounts. Participates in various training programs offered by WellPoint and/or outside organizations.

 

Must be staffed in the Indianapolis, IN officeRequires general guidance from higher level management; must have 5 years experience working in the Indiana market with excellent relationships throughout the broker community. Must have thorough knowledge of Indiana market products, services and pricing. Good knowledge of health plan and specialty products; Proficient on funding mechanisms; Proven leadership skills. Thorough understanding of healthcare sales and account management principles and techniques, particularly pertaining to large group. Knowledge of various health plan and specialty products. Strong understanding of the marketplace dynamics and assessment of competitive environment. Demonstrated history of sales results and track record with brokerage community. Prior leadership or management experience. 10 --15 years experience in sales and account management. Excellent interpersonal, leadership, team building, negotiation and communication skills. Strong analytic and problem solving skills.
