Operations Supervisor I
This position reports directly to the Personal Lines Operations Manager. Reporting to this position are Clerk/Word Processors, Records Clerks Underwriting Clerks, Control Clerks, Cancellations Clerks, Data Entry Operators and Quality Specialists. 1. Selects, trains, and develops an effective and efficient staff: Makes every reasonable effort to select, train and develop, qualified minorities and women in support of the Company's Affirmative Action Program. Establishes and communicates performance standards and objectives, conducts performance appraisals. Recommends salary adjustments, promotions, transfers and dismissals. Monitors operations and staff and recommends, when necessary, changes in methods, procedures, structure, and additions or changes in personnel to secure optimum utilization of resources. Counsels employees on educational and job opportunities which will enhance their career development, and keeps staff informed of current problems, changes, and new developments in the department and company by conducting periodic meetings. Administers all policies and procedures contained in the Profile of Kemper Benefits and Personnel Procedures Manual, communicates to staff, interprets, as necessary, and ensures compliance. Administers and implements changes on an ongoing basis to improve productivity, including the most efficient use of automation. Monitors department work productivity, reports on trends and recommends and implements changes to continually improve work productivity. Develops subordinate managers and/or supervisors, particularly in the management techniques of planning, organizing, leading and controlling; through continued coaching and feedback on performance. 2. Supervises staff responsible for one to two of the functions outlined in the reporting relationship section and assures that production objectives are met.3. Coordinates or assists in research studies of existing workflow, methods and procedures, office policies and unit job structure in specific work areas for development of work standards. This is supportive of the Work Management Program.4. Conducts quality reviews in accordance with Personal Lines standard program, to insure an efficient operations with acceptable accuracy levels and utilizes results in the performance evaluation process.5. Directs and insures that department staff is providing timely, courteous and efficient service to agents and policyholders within established standards.6. Coordinates and works closely with other departments regarding work flow, special assignments and other related matters.7. Maintains unit records and prepares reports regarding the personnel and operations of the unit.8. Prepares an annual budget and when approved, controls accordingly within authority level.9. Provides support to the Agency Interface Program as applicable.10. Monitors work place and work practices to ensure safe office conditions and makes or coordinates changes as necessary.11. Oversees and provides a coordinated training program that produces an effective staff.12. Keeps Manager informed verbally and in writing of activities and problems within assigned area of responsibility; refers matters beyond limits of authority and expertise to Manager for direction.13. Performs other related duties as required or requested.Coordinates closely with Personal Lines Underwriting, Operations Units and other in-house units supportive of Personal Lines. May also have contact with Home Office Personnel. Occasional contact with agents, agency representatives, service companies or state agencies.
