Property and Inland Marine Underwriter-Excess Property

The Property and Inland Marine Division (P&IM) is one of Great American’s largest and most successful business units, having won the President's Gold Cup Award an unprecedented 5 consecutive years and the 2007 CEO's Choice Award.

The P&IM Division is currently searching for an Underwriter for the Excess Property Department. The role of the Underwriter is to underwrite and assist in the production of profitable Property and Inland Marine business in accordance with Company objectives and policies.

Selects, underwrites and prices risks within delegated underwriting authority. Develops and/or maintains an adequate flow of new and renewal business compatible with production goals. Exercises appropriate agency management techniques that will enhance the Company's position in the agency plant. Meets or exceeds service standards in the areas of new business, renewals and endorsements. Enhances technical expertise in the area of Property and Inland Marine underwriting. Exercises appropriate control over expenses such as commissions and travel. May assist in the training and development of less experienced staff members. Maintains close external contact with insureds, agents, and insurance industry support operations (ISO, CAB, independent adjusters, surveyors). Performs other duties as directed.

Must have a minimum of 1-5 years of underwriting experience, preferrably in the area of commercial property/excess property. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are needed in this position.

Bachelor's degree or equivalent business/work experience is required. AMIM and/or CPCU designations are given strong consideration.
