Senior ETL Developer/Designer Are you a savvy Senior ETL Developer/Designer who is looking for challenge within Safeco’s Business Intelligence Center of Excellence? Job Summary Senior ETL Developer/Designer is a technical expert having experience creating complex Informatica code, job optimization, and batch schedule optimization. Must understand complex Informatica transformations such as the aggregator and sorter and when to push the work down to the database, how to use the different update strategies. Familiarity with topics such as when to use cached vs. uncached lookups, how dynamic cached lookups work, when to use and not use joiners, XML parsing, normalizers, etc. A strong understanding of SQL overrides and general SQL knowledge very desirable. Work with the Data Warehouse Architect, Data Architects, Business Analysts, and Source System SME's to translate business requirements into technical source to target mappings. Work within a team of Informatica developers and quality assurance analysts, both onshore and offshore. Key Responsibilities Oversees and Reviews work of junior level ETL Designers Solid understanding of Informatica v7 & v8 Help design ETL load strategies Be a Senior Team Member reviewing and optimizing ETL Transformations Help design the most efficient processes for transforming data Define data mappings between source and target databases Design and architect components of data warehouse solutions Work with developers and DBA's to optimize job run times Help design error handling strategies, load back-out strategies, and recovery strategies for ETL processes Review developers code to make sure it is efficient, and meets all coding standards Help to revise ETL Best Practices documentation and make sure it is understood and followed by developers Design and promote administrative and developer best practices Troubleshoot and resolve problems in both production and test environments Technical Skills Experience with Relational Databases, including Oracle & Teradata Solid grasp of dimensional and 3NF database design Solid understanding of Dimensional Data Warehouse theory, the use of surrogate keys, Types 1 and 2 slowly changing dimensions, etc. Solid understanding of RDBMs and SQL. Experience using Informatica with Teradata, including load utilities Mload and TPump. Experience designing complex Informatica jobs and then handing them off to developers via detailed technical specifications. Experience with Cybermation scheduler or other external scheduler 5+ years ETL Development with Informatica (Power Center v8 Preferred) Experience using PowerExchange components with a mainframe environment. 5+ years Data Warehouse Experience Teradata Utilities, database design and implementation Safeco Insurance, headquartered in Seattle, WA is an industry leader in Property and Casualty products.
