Description:RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Within delegated authority levels and company guidelines, accepts, rejects or modifies new business for all commercial lines to ensure a profitable commercial book of business. Prices business according to company underwriting and pricing guidelines within individual underwriting authority limits, and ensures standards for timeliness are met. Expected to maintain frequent visit schedule with all assigned agents. Ability to fill in for the Underwriter Manager on referrals when Manager is away from office. 2. Markets Company products through critical agent contacts to achieve company growth and profitability targets. Develops on-going relationships with agents, monitors agency growth, profitability and quality of submissions, and keeps agent up-to-date with underwriting and/or product changes. Expected to communicate relationship issues and salient business situations with the underwriting team including the Territory Manager and Team Leader. 3. Handles and manages complex books of new business to maximize profitability and growth. Reviews loss activity (frequency, severity) for each agent in assigned territory. Considers mix of business, loss ratios by line of business, fit of business with company guidelines. Identifies problems or patterns and works with agents to correct. May recommend constraints on business the agent may submit or in collaboration with TMs and Underwriting Team determines what resources the Agency requires. 4. Gathers and communicates competitive commercial lines marketing data including pricing, product information and product development opportunities. 5. Responsible along with underwriting manager for training and development of Regional underwriting staff. Mentors Underwriter Trainees. Leads weekly meetings with underwriter trainees along with Underwriter Manager on status of trainees activities and what has been reviewed and learned each week during the year long training program. Leads and provides direction for the monthly regional calibration / training sessions. Trains, coaches and serves as technical resource to other regional underwriters within the region. 6. Participates with the Region and Corporate Underwriting in the development of new products.
