A Specialist, Data/Eng Admin develops database systems and applications with full competency. Coordinates with users to determine requirements. Analyzes, designs, creates and implements databases including access methods, device allocations, validation checks, organization and security. Designs data models, logical and physical databases, data dictionaries and schemas. Reviews systems under development and related documentation.
1.Designs, implements and maintains complex databases with respect to access methods, device allocation, validation checks, protection and security and documentation. Includes maintenance of database dictionaries, overall monitoring of standards and procedures, and integration of systems and applications through database design.
2. Analyzes, designs, models, develops, implements and maintains the organizations database systems and application across multiple platforms.
3. Maintains database support tools, database tables and dictionaries, recovery and back-up procedures.
4. Performs data modeling studies and develops data models. Maintains data model and entity relationship diagrams. Monitors data architecture standards and conventions, database space usage and performance.
5. Participates in the design, creation, and maintenance of database systems and applications. Responsible for quality control and auditing of databases to ensure accurate and appropriate use of data. Works with management to develop database solutions to support company needs.
6. Ability to diagnose technical challenges through reading code and supporting technical documentation. Analyzes and resolves issues related to information flow and content. May work directly with users to resolve data conflicts and inappropriate data usage.
7. Works in an environment, which includes data design, database architecture, metadata and repository creation. Translates business needs into architectural solutions. Defines, designs and builds relational databases. Evaluates reuseability of current data for additional analyses and conducts data cleaning to rid the system and/or application of old, unused, or duplicate data. Reviews object and data models and the metadata repository to structure the data for better management and quicker access.
8. Responsible for preparation of system requirements, analysis, and design throughout the database system or application implementation. Codes and documents scripts and stored procedures. Develops appropriate programs and systems documentation.
9. Troubleshoots and tunes existing database applications. Conducts research into new database applications and determines viability for adoption. Liaises with database software vendors and external technical support.
10. Proven use of data manipulation, transformation, mapping, conversion and cleansing tools.
11. Design and maintain Inbound & Outbound data load processes.
Education: Undergraduate studies in computer science, management information systems or related field is preferred.
Experience: 3-5 years of experience in a database administration, preferably Oracle. Progressive experience in database analysis and installation. Thorough understanding of the UNIX operations system preferred.
Knowledge: Proven knowledge in advanced, multi-platform databases and application packages. Must have a thorough understanding in database analysis and design techniques. Proven knowledge in database administration as it relates to a mainframe, network or relational environment. Must have a thorough understanding in data manipulation, transformation, mapping and cleansing tools. Must have a thorough understanding of project management concepts and techniques.
Skills/Competencies: Must have the ability to analyze databases that have multiple platforms and widespread impact. Must have strong analytical and decision-making skills. Must possess interpersonal savvy and well-developed leadership ability. Must have process and change management skills. Must possess negotiation skills. Must have strong oral and written communication skills to interact with all levels of personnel, senior management and vendors.
