Sr. Accountant

The primary purpose of this position is to support the accounting and financial reporting functions of the Traditional Accounting area.

Responsibilities for this position are as follows: Develop and maintain report for account reconciliations, financial analysis and reporting. Prepare quarterly account reconciliations and analysis for assigned accounts. Play a significant role in the preparation of statutory financial statements and related filings to the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC). This requires the use of Freedom AS2000software and coordination with other departments to obtain and input and crosscheck relevant data. It also requires the use of existing or creation of new reports to ensure the filings are complete, accurate, reasonable and valid and in accordance with current NAIC “blank guidelines”. Support GAAP reporting process through FSA account analysis, flux explanations and maintenance of ADI reports. Assist as needed, with any additional departmental requirements that may include answering state compliance questions, invoice coding, Zurich requests, etc. Monitor and reconcile monthly ledger interfaces to Oracle G/L. Compile and input monthly and/or quarterly journal entries for statutory, GAAP and Internal Group accounting. Miscellaneous projects or duties as assigned. Assist with user acceptance testing of the Business of the Future (BoF) system. Support merger and acquisition activity; specifically, accounting for consolidation and elimination of acquired entities and the maintenance of supporting schedules and work papers related to this activity. Identify process improvements and efficiencies and ensuring proper controls.

The following background and skills are required: The individual should have a Bachelor’s degree in accounting with some G/L and internal control experience, as well as computer aptitude, particularly in the use of Excel spreadsheets, database software and MS Word documents. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 2-4 years of accounting and reporting experience with Life Insurance concentration (5-7years overall). CPA or CPA candidate with financial accounting and reporting experience and proven technical, organization, documentation and communication skills, is highly desired. Knowledge of Oracle G/L and AS2000 is desirable
