Level II System Administrator

We are currently seeking a Level II System Administrator to provide technical support to our offices located in Albany, NY, Deerfield, IL and Farmington, CT.
The primary responsibilities of a Level II System Administrator are
Level II Systems Administrators install, configure, and support an organization's local area network (LAN), wide area network (WAN), and Internet system or a segment of a network system. Maintain network hardware and software. Monitor network to ensure network availability to all system users and perform necessary maintenance to support network availability. May supervise other network support and client server specialists and plan, coordinate, and implement network security measures.
Our ideal candidate will possess the following:Build and implement Windows 2000/2003 servers for new and existing projects, with and emphasis on SQL servers.Tune SQL servers and production machines for the production environment with minimal downtime.Update machines with OS, hardware and software patches and upgrades.Apply a firm grounding in a wide range of network technologies, solutions and trends – especially common protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, SMTP, FTP, SSH, SSL, SNMP, LDAP), storage management (SAN/NAS implementations), network load balancing, server consolidation technologies, blade servers, IIS, SQL, and Exchange – to optimize and protect the network infrastructure.Implement server deployment processes, including cloning and/or automated deployment, systems hardening and lockdown procedures.Maintain appropriate security on the servers and network, including but not limited to security patches, corporate firewalls and file/directory ACL’s.Address and determine OS/SQL/Hardware development paths for the company.Maintain and improve backup and recovery strategies.Standardize and centralize administration of end user applications, including but not limited to anti-virus applications, updates and patches.Participate as a senior team member providing 24x7 on-call escalation support for the production environment, carrying and responding to a pager. Resolve production outages (SQL, web server, etc) according to formalized Down Instructions as well as through problem-solving.Act as a mentor and coach for junior members of the team, particularly in the areas of system administration and SQL tuning.
Position Requirements:Bachelor’s degree and three years work experience or 4-7 years without a degree.Experience supporting and maintaining an SQL 2000 Server, including tuning and performance management.Experience supporting and maintaining IIS 5.0, IIS 6.0 servers.Experience supporting and maintaining Microsoft Windows 2000, XP and Server 2003 Standard machines.Solid knowledge of protocols such as TCP/IP, DNS, SMTP, FTP, SSH, SSL, SNMP.Solid knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server technologies, such as Data Transformation Services (DTS).Solid knowledge of Microsoft Windows 2000, XP and Server 2003.Solid knowledge of Microsoft Exchange and Active Directory administration.Strong problem solving skills and judgment, leveraging technical knowledge and institutional knowledge to quickly resolve problems.Experience creating web-tools and scripts for system monitoring, automation and maintenance.Excellent analytical skills.Excellent organizational skills.Excellent written and oral communication skills.Ability to follow written/oral instruction and “read between the lines.”Ability to be flexible with regard to on-call availability.
