ABOUT THIS OPPORTUNITY: Technical Architect
Data Services is undergoing a transformation in terms of infrastructure and process. This individual will lead the effort to define a new architecture, and new set of software development standards and best practices to be used by the department. Our overall objectives are to reduce the magnitude and complexity of production support tasks, improve developer productivity, modernize our platforms, and improve the manageability of the deployed applications. Our eminent transition to SQL 2005 and availability of a Data Warehouse offer the possibility of enormous improvements.
Additionally, this person will be a member of the LTCG enterprise architecture team to ensure that Data Services’ architecture is in alignment with enterprise architecture: The goals for the team are as follows:
· Develop a select core team of senior technical reviewers
· Provide formal technical reviews, guidance, and recommendations for large and/or critical projects in LTCG
· Provide and facilitate a cross platform review of designs and estimates
· Evolve and support use of standards across platforms (knowing there are exceptions, but let’s at least acknowledge them)
· Participate in the Reference Architecture project (we are having consultants come to do much of the leg work, but need cross platform guidance and input)
· Drive better integration between teams/platforms
· Mentor more junior technical resources, project, and program managers in the fundamentals of sound architecture
· Improve environment management (better sharing and planning for platform environmental needs)
A list of specific responsibilities are as follows:Assists in the definition of new application architectures, frameworks, development processes, and best practices to be used by Data Services. Be the technical driving force for implementation of new architectures. Plan and lead the migration of legacy applications to the new architecture. Assist in development of application designs that follow the new architectural guidelines. Review application designs to ensure they are in alignment with the new architecture and that standards and best practices are being used. Lead, mentor, train, and provides work direction to programmer/analysts. Communicate and escalate issues to Data Services and senior LTCG management.
GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS
An extensive software development background is require and should include ability to analyze, design, develop and implement applications for data feeds and reports. The person will be able to lead strategic analysis that leads to an optimal architecture for the department.
The person will have background in leadership of a developmental team including task assignment, follow up and escalation. Additionally, the person will be able to communicate status and plans to company management. The following list contains specific requirements: B.S. Degree in a computer related field or equivalent experience. Strong knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server 2000, SQL Server 2005, .NET, and Visual Studio (VB, VSS). Knowledge of techniques to migrate application from SQL 2000 to SQL 2005. 5 - 8 years of application design and development experience including software analysis, design, and programming. More than 2 years of experience developing application architectures. 1 - 2 years Client/Server experience, including integration with n-tier architectures. Excellent communication skills. Experience in planning and leading projects. Experience with mentoring and training staff.
