We are currently seeking an experienced Underwriter to be a part of our team in Bethesda Md. ResponsibilitiesResponsible for the review and evaluation of life insurance applications (medical and financial history) to determine risk acceptability and coverage. Responsible for the evaluation of life insurance risks for the purpose of determining the best product/premium solution through the review of life insurance files, client medical records, and information provided by agents and/or brokers. Acts as (A partner with) sales and producers to formulate the est solution for the proposed insured. Negotiates to secure the most competitive offer for placement of policy with the appropriate carrier. Manages complex and/or higher profile cases. Incumbent may be assigned as dedicated underwriter to large key account. • Assesses risk and negotiates cases with producers and carriers through evaluation of an individual's medical history or physical condition, occupational hazards, financial background, insurable interest and other information pertinent to the decision • Works with Agents, Sales and Sales Support to determine appropriate carrier based on proposed insured’s risk prior to and/or during the insurance application process • Prepares or reviews underwriting summaries to include medical and non-medical information (i.e., abnormal lab results, EKG interpretation, family history, blood pressure, weight, aviation, avocation, travel, etc.) for carrier review • Develop and manage relationships with producers, carrier underwriters and team members and acts as a resource for underwriting questions or issues • Maintain current knowledge of carrier underwriting guidelines, insurance products, brokerage market, and re-insurance market • Provides on-going underwriting training to junior staff underwriters Qualifications• Requires a 4 year college degree or equivalent business experience and a minimum of 5 years Life underwriting experience preferrably in a brokerage setting • Strong problem-solving, oral, written communication and negotiating skills required, and ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks • Knowledge and ability to assess medical and financial risk, and possess selling skills to position value of offer • Experience with PC’s in a Windows environment required and agency software preferred • *FLMI or working toward it on a consistent basis We are proud to be an EEO/AA employer M/F/D/V.
