Underwriting Manager

 

This position is responsible for establishing an effective business relationship with Sales and Marketing to execute a business plan that optimizes profitable growth opportunities, in addition to providing mentoring and peer review to other Underwriting team members. Key functions will include identifying improvement opportunities and potential solutions; implementing new policies, procedures and methodologies; and implementing continuous quality improvement programs. Involves attending broker meetings to present underwriting analysis as needed. This position will also be responsible for validating data to ensure appropriate rating, justifying rate change on renewals through analysis of key drivers, analyzing risk and opportunity for growth and/or margin within groups, and providing market-related insight to facilitate customer-focused decision making.  The position reports to the Company’s Chief Operating Officer.

 

The successful candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree and 7 years of health insurance/underwriting experience. A supervisory background is also essential. Must have knowledge of the laws pertaining to individual, small and large group insurance, along with an understanding of insurance products such as POS, PPO, Pharmacy, etc. Computer skills in a Windows environment are preferred, as is a working knowledge of MS Word and Excel.
