Underwriting Service Representative

 

 GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

 

The Underwriting Service Rep is part of a team of life insurance professionals who are responsible for managing insurance applications through the underwriting process.  The position acts as a liaison between life insurance carriers and insurance agents to ensure that applications are processed, underwritten and issued in a timely manner. 

 

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

 Review incoming insurance applications to ensure they are properly/thoroughly completed.

 Work with relationship manager, insurance agent, carrier and other third parties to ensure all case requirements are met, documenting activity in agency management system and providing application status to all interested parties.

 Handle all details of the case file, including but not limited to:

 data entry and update of agency management systemcompiling and processing necessary information ordering exams/APS and other necessary informationreviewing policy for accuracyfollowing case through from receipt to delivery/in-force status

 Communicate regularly with agent producers regarding case status via email, fax or phone.

 Maintain a thorough knowledge and understanding of carrier products, underwriting guidelines and processing procedures.

 Assist with all aspects of customer service as needed to maintain client relationships.

 Answer general questions when agents call in and serve as a resource for producers as to underwriting guidelines and carrier processes.

 Other duties as assigned.

 

REQUIREMENTS:

 High school diploma required, college degree preferred  Minimum of 3 years life insurance case management/underwriting experience; 5 years preferredAbility to be self-motivated and work as part of a teamMust possess a positive attitude, team spirit and excellent customer service skillsExcellent inter-personal and written/oral presentation skills
