Accounting Manager

Lycos is seeking an Accounting Manager to join our small Finance team. Initially reporting to the Controller, this position may eventually report directly to the CFO, and will work closely with members of various departments throughout the Company.  The highest priority will be the successful oversight of the day-to-day accounting and month-end close process, as well as the preparation of financials for management review. This is an outstanding opportunity for someone to ultimately own the finance function in a small, growing company and advance within the organization.

 

Primary responsibilities

Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

· Review and assure accuracy of the accounting records

· Evaluate contractual arrangements for proper GAAP accounting treatment

· Manage and direct the activities of up to 4 accounting staff members

· Coordinate year-end audit and quarterly reviews

·  Draft financial statements and related footnote disclosures in accordance with GAAP

· Perform basic maintenance of general ledger accounting system

· Monitor and project available cash

· Assure that financial reporting requirements are provided accurately and timely to the CFO

· Assist with or complete special analyses and projects as they arise

 

Position requirements:Must have accounting degree and at least 5 years work experience.  CPA is preferred.Solid knowledge of GAAP accounting principles and excellent knowledge of normal accounting operations and procedures.Willingness and ability to “own” the financial statement close process and take responsibility for meeting deadlines and assuring accuracy of reporting.Advanced knowledge of Excel.Excellent analytic skills and ability to complete loosely-defined tasks (i.e., think about all the pieces)Excellent communication skills – including ability to write clearlyAbility to multi-task and balance competing priorities in a fast-paced environmentA “can do” attitude and be willing to do whatever it takesA strong work ethic
