Jobs: Build and Release Engineer (QA)

This is a highly visible position responsible for maintaining and improving NexTag's automated build environment as well as making critical process improvements. Candidates should have extensive experience using and administrating CVS and implementing branching and merging strategies. Experience integrating with open source defect tracking systems, continuous build systems and automated test environments is highly desirable. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are mandatory. The Build and Release Engineer will play a vital role at NexTag scaling our build environment and processes to accommodate a rapidly growing, geographically dispersed development team.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

- This position is responsible for providing tools and processes to improve developer and QA productivity, providing guidance on software engineering best practices, providing input on architectural changes (code refactoring, code architecting, application servers), while owning and maintaining our main source code repository.
- Maintain the CVS repository, the automated and continuous build system, defect tracking system and other tools used by engineering and QA.
- Continued to develop and integrate new tools for increasing and measuring the productivity of engineering; for example, the 3 tools listed first can be better integrated to improve reporting and auditing; enable test coverage tools and tie it in with automated testing; automated profiler, other build tools.
- Continue to automate the build process to decrease the manual steps and make that process repeatable.
- Drive process improvements such as better build numbering, better branching strategies, better JSP rollout process, code componentization, etc.
- Provide assistance to developers for code maintenance (branching & merging, CVS questions)
- Work closely with senior developers and managers on defining architectural direction with respect to code refactoring, code architecture, application servers, etc.
