The Corporate Controller is responsible for the overall administration of Internal Accounting and financial matters. The individual who attains this position will also complete and participate in various projects as directed by the VP Finance. This individual is responsible for overseeing the processes within the Finance department, namely billing, accounting, and ADP implementation.

 

  Essential Duties & Responsibilities

§  Ensures the maintenance of effective internal controls in order to guarantee the protection of assets and the reliability of financial statements.

§  Meets all deadlines for closing of the books, monthly, quarterly, and yearly.

§  Ensures compliance with GAAP and F/ARM with any reporting requirements.

§  Ensures complete and up-to-date operating procedures for all accounting and financial controls.

§  Expedites the preparation of annual operating and capital budget projections.

§  Ensures compliance with Sarbanes Oxley Controls and with Gannett internal audit standards

§  Reviews all receipts and disbursements, determines correct account distribution, and ensures that all support documentation is accurate and in order.

§  Provides direction for Accounts Receivable follow-up in order to ensure acceptable DSO levels, and engages in collection calls when needed.

§  Oversees the billing and insertion order process, assuring IO and billing accuracy compliance within acceptable limits.

§  Constantly streamlines processes to reduce close times and keep up with company growth trajectory.

§  Maintains a rolling one year (updated quarterly) staff and department plan.

§  Develops and documents all accounting processes outside of Accounts Receivable.

§  Develops an escalation policy/process, allowing accounts to progress through seamlessly.

§  Develops a way to communicate at-risk accounts to the Sales Team, and administers the commission penalties and subsequent payments in conjunction with the controller.

§  Develops a way to track all collection calls.

§  Determines ways to drive diligent follow-up.

§  Acts as project manager of the GL package-upgrade and meets all agreed deadlines.

§  Documents AR Department procedures.

§  Handles other projects as they arise and are directed by the VP of Finance.

§  Develops a credit function suitable for PointRoll. This credit function will help facilitate better collections while maintaining a smooth sales process.

§  Performs other job-related duties as required.

§  Meets expectations for attendance and punctuality.



Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required

§  Thorough understanding of accounting, bookkeeping, and GAAP reporting requirements

§  Demonstrated verbal-communication and writing skills 

§  Formal education in accounting required

§  Strong ability to lead a team of accounting professionals

§  Ability to develop long-term plans and programs

§  Ability to evaluate work accomplishments

§  Ability to prioritize and effectively handle multiple projects

§  Solid project management/coordination skills

§  Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and solve complex problems

§  Ability to work effectively and efficiently, independently or as part of a team

§  Experience with and ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with Management Staff, employees, and outside vendors.

 

Computer & Software Experience

§  Microsoft Office: Excel, Access, Word

 

Education & Business Experience

§  Bachelor’s degree (or higher)

§  CPA preferred or demonstrated equivalent in education and experience.
