Position Statement
This position is responsible for the corporation’s accounting principles, practices, and procedures and for the preparation and maintenance of financial records and reports. The position requires a strong, flexible leader who can communicate direction and build results through metrics-based performance management.
Team with business partners in order to understand, prioritize and review specialized/complex analysis, reports and transactions and implement any changes needed, and team and perform seamlessly with separate Planning and Analysis department. This position will partner closely with other areas in order to develop organization-wide systems and infrastructure solutions including a single ledger system.
Essential FunctionsPerforms day-to-day management of the accounting organization. This includes the following: an in-depth understanding of the financial metrics driving the business, delivery of fast, efficient month end closing process. Sets up policies and procedures for reporting controls. Develops and administers policies and procedures for administration of accounting needs, including continuous process improvement initiatives. Utilize leadership skills, with oversight for accounting management operations, maintaining the alignment of financial policy and business objectives.Prioritize financial workflow to provide high quality product, increase speed and efficiency while enhancing the processes.Selects, coaches, and provides ongoing feedback to staff ensuring high work quality and collaborative interdepartmental relationships.Coordinates reporting of financial condition to executive leadership. This includes monthly recap of financial statements, analysis of variances. Support the financial integration of new acquisitions and /or restructurings. Manages both payables and receivables, which includes monitoring accounts receivable aging and providing feedback for establishing credit policies, collection or outstanding debts, and maintaining payment standards.Recommend and implement long-term strategies to maintain or improve fiscal health of the organization. Directs all financial control and reporting systems. Develop and implement monthly departmental consolidated financial statements that provide timely information and the analysis required for management to monitor revenue, expenses, and variance to budget. Establish accounting reporting systems, processes, and procedures that are scalable and provide strong internal control.Provide forward-thinking initiatives for the department to accomplish objectives, which may include organizational restructuring, process re-engineering, technological enhancements, and adaptability to changing business environments.Manage the annual financial audit, tax return preparation and other related audits.Work closely with advisors (lawyers, public accountant firms) and other managers.Establish and maintain cost accounting procedures, systems and controls.Manage cash flow, responsible for daily cash management.Maintains the company’s system of accounts and keeps books and records on all company transactions and assets.Is responsible for tax planning and compliance with all federal, state, and local corporate and other applicable taxes.Determines depreciation rates to apply to capitalized items and advises management on desirable operational adjustments due to tax revisions.Prepares reports for the Board of Directors that outline the company’s financial position in the areas of income, expenses, and earnings based on past, present, and future operations.
Qualifications & Competencies (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities) RequiredBachelor’s Degree in Accounting with CPA Certificate. MBA highly desired.10+ years of progressive professional level accounting or finance, previous experience as a Controller with 3-5 years supervisory experience required. Strong analytical and communication skills; thorough knowledge of GAAP. Proficiency with management information systems and all MS Office applications (proficiency with Excel isessential.) Must be organized, detail oriented, motivated and able to multitask in a fast paced and dynamic work environment.Mastery of Great Plains Accounting Software.Knowledge of automated financial and accounting reporting systems. Knowledge of federal and state financial regulations. Ability to analyze financial data and prepare financial reports, statements and projections.Work requires professional written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to motivate teams to produce quality materials within tight timeframes and simultaneously manage several projects. Ability to participate in and facilitate group meetings.Must have high-level interpersonal skills and able to interact and communicate with individuals at all levels of the organization. Develops key relationships with counterparts in other parts of the company. Position continually requires demonstrated poise, tact and diplomacy.Strong process design and implementation skills.Ability to develop high levels of credibility and forge solid and positive professional relationships with subordinates, peers, and upper management.Recommend benchmarks for measuring the financial and operating performance of divisions and departments.
