DIRECTOR OF BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT

Position Summary

PlayPhone is seeking a Director of Business Development to drive new business deals with leading Web and WAP portals, casual games sites, social networks, widget developers, and other consumer Internet sites. The Director of Business Development will be specifically responsible for developing strategic Web traffic sharing and cost-per-action (CPA) deals that result in more subscribers to PlayPhone’s and our B2B partners’ mobile entertainment services. The role will involve a combination of opportunity qualification, proposal development, negotiation and deal closing. The position reports to the Executive Director of Business Development and is based in our San Jose office, with some travel.

 

In addition to our flagship mobile storefront at www.playphone.com, our B2B portal partners include Wal-Mart, ABC Television, Cartoon Network, Sega, Bandai, and Real Networks, among others. Ideal candidates will have experience developing business relationships with leading consumer Web sites and Web 2.0 companies, and an understanding of the mobile space and Web 2.0 services.

 

Key ResponsibilitiesIdentify, qualify, negotiate and close new business development opportunities; write proposals, respond to RFPs, and pursue other activities to grow PlayPhone’s subscriber base;Manage relationships with large and small companies in the Internet and mobile spaces;Work closely with internal (marketing, account management, product management) and external (B2B partners, affiliates) parties to structure business deals that deliver astonishing ROI;Do what it takes to out-think and out-execute the competition and get more than our fair share of market.

 

RequirementsExperience devising and signing creative deals in the Internet, mobile and/or new media spaces;5+ years in hands-on business development experience with a demonstrated ability to manage and close multiple deals quickly;Entrepreneurial spirit and drive to succeed in a fast-paced startup environment;Ability to learn and effectively discuss key aspects of the mobile business and subscriber acquisition models;Must be a collaborative team player, confident decision maker, and effective influencer of top management; Persuasive written, verbal and in-person communications skills;Flexibility to travel as needed.

Infrequent domestic travel.
