Director, Product Management-Community & Developer Relations

The Director of Product Management for Community & Developer Relations will provide leadership and management for a team focused on building community aspects of our service, both on and off our site. This person will engage in community-based strategies to:
• Leverage users to enhance our site content
• Improve retention and trial via social networking strategies, and
• Leverage the outside development community by releasing APIs

To date, Netflix has been a leader in community-based strategies with more than 2 billion user-submitted ratings, the creation of our “Friends” social network feature, and through engagement with outside developers via our $1 million “Netflix Prize.” We’d like to accelerate progress on all of these fronts and become increasingly open and connected to the web.

The “bull’s-eye” for the position is someone who is passionate about building a community both with users and the developer community. This person is likely a slightly technically-oriented PM with strong outward-facing skills – he or she is a bit of an evangelist and is known in the web community. The person will have lots of experience building web sites, analyzing data, and working effectively with marketing, design, and engineering partners.

Required skills and attributes

• A blend of management, technical, creative, business, and marketing skills.
• Demonstrated ability to build consumer products.
• Experience working in a data-driven environment, ideally with quantitative research experience that includes A-B testing, regression testing, etc.
• Director or VP-level experience in product development, product management, or customer service.
• Strong cross-functional leadership and communication skills.
• Strategic thinking skills coupled with proactive, results-oriented attitude, an appreciation for the “soft issues” of a company and high business maturity.
• Range of startup to established company experience; mix of “starter” and “builder” skills.
• College degree required. MBA a plus. (CS degree possible, as long as the candidate has adequate knowledge of marketing and ability to package and position ideas for consumers.)
