Position Description:
Job SummaryeScholastic, Director, Student Activities: Directs, develops, manages Student Activities section of Teacher/Classroom channel of Scholastic.com. Student Activities are a proven critical traffic driver for Scholastic's web site and Scholastic's most unique competitive differentiator among the many content types and services our site provides to educators and classrooms. The role combines hands-on producing and project execution, as well as direction/management of others.Develop innovative, compelling interactive site features, projects, programs that meet clear instructional and curriculur needs for our classroom users -- that yield measurable increases in site traffic, usage, and user satisfaction.Oversee and manage all content and functionality on the Student Activities section of Scholastic.com, reflecting knowledge of best practices as well as a deep knowledge of educators' needs, curriculum, and intructional best practices in software and the web.Contribute significantly to classroom-focused premium products, and where indicated, lead product development.Responsible for both hands-on project/producing execution as well as directing the work of staff producers on projects. Manage producer support and relationship with Scholastic News Online and related Classroom Magazine projects, ensure magazine-generated content integration with student activities. The Director is responsible for joint planning to determine how best to serve the needs and best represent their offerings through eScholastic's online tools.Direct, manage, develop producers and editors assigned to Student Activities, as well as outside freelancers, consultants and vendors.Develop approved yearly/quarterly publishing plan and execute the plan.Budgetary and spending responsibility for approved projects and activities, approving contracts, negotiating with content suppliers, and otherwise overseeing financial and business relationships relating to Student Activities and other assigned projects.Key member of senior leadership of Teacher/Classroom Site, including providing important creative/editorial contribution to Teacher/Classroom Site planning, prioritization
Qualifications:
Qualifications/RequirementsAt least 6 years of direct experience on the web on the creation/production side, with at least 2-3 years as a more senior manager of others and/or significant projectsAt least three years of experience in a closely related field that complements and informs the Student Activities work. This may include teaching, other areas of educational publishing, educational technology or interactive product designA demonstrated track record of success having directed and executed significant projects A high degree of familiarty and fluency with web based development tools such as Microsoft Poject, Visoe, Dreamweaver or other HTML development tools, as well as standard business design and content management software tools, from Office to Adobe, etc.Knowledge of best web practices, awareness of latest innovative technologies for design and delivery of content on the webReasonable familiarity with how web sites, software, databases are constructed and managed.How to applyIf you’re ready to take your online career to the next level, then step up to the plate and tell us why you should be our next Director of Student Activities!
