Cogent is a Tier One ISP focused on delivering a focused set of Internet access products ranging from 500 Kbps to 1,000 Mbps to businesses in the multi-tenant marketplace in more than 30 markets across the United States, Canada and several countries in Europe. Cogent’s facilities-based all-optical end-to-end IP network enables 100 Mbps connectivity, a rate that is about 100 times faster than observed T1 capacity (or 65 times faster than the published rate of 1.544 Mbps).

Cogent’s network consists of a dedicated 80 Gigabit nationwide fiber optic backbone, intra-city fiber rings and optically-interfaced high-speed routers. This highly efficient network enables Cogent to not only provide customers with unheard of pricing, but it also enables Cogent to protect customer connections at the data level (Layer 3) where every packet of data is protected and routed to its final destination.

Cogent is currently recruiting for the following position:LAN Administrator

 Responsibilities

 Ensure proper computer operation so that end users can accomplish business tasksThis includes receiving, prioritizing, documenting, and actively resolving end user help requests
Individual will be responsible for day to day operations of numerous MS server in an enterprise environment.Individuals will perform hands-on fixes at the desktop level, including installing and upgrading software, installing hardware, implementing file backups, and configuring systems and applicationsProblem resolution may involve the use of diagnostic and help request tracking tools, as well as require that the individual give in-person, hands-on help at the desktop levelThe Technician will field incoming help requests from end users via both telephone and e-mail in a courteous manner, document all pertinent end user identification information, including name, department, contact information, and nature of problem or issue, build rapport and elicit problem details from help desk customersPrioritize and schedule problems; and escalate problems (when required) to the appropriately experienced technicianThis candidate will perform preventative maintenance, including checking and cleaning of servers, workstations, printers, and peripherals; test fixes to ensure problem has been adequately resolved; and perform post-resolution follow-ups to help requestsThis role will also provide excellent customer service. Consistent customer care, quality standards, and reporting requirements are core competencies of the position. Ability to quickly adapt to changing priorities and fluctuations in workflow are requirements of the LAN Administrator role.

 Educational & Experience RequirementsProficient in  Windows 2000, Windows XP, Office 2000/XP, 2003Understanding of desktop deployment process.Advanced knowledge and exposure to Windows Server 2000, 2003 Active Directory, and MS Exchange 2003Must be detail-oriented, and able to pursue issues to a successful conclusion.  Professionalism in demeanor, communication, and interaction with end-users.MCP, MCSA, or MCSE a plus.
